Georginio Wijnaldum: What Virgil van Dijk told me about moving to Liverpool FC on the phone
The Liverpool FC midfielder opens up about his conversation with Virgil van Dijk about the defender's move to Anfield

Georginio Wijnaldum has lifted the lid on his conversation with Virgil van Dijk after Southampton defender agreed a move to Liverpool FC.
The Netherlands defender has been regularly linked with a move to the Anfield outfit over the past 12 months but Liverpool FC were unable to get a deal over the line.
Van Dijk has now become the most expensive defender in world football after Liverpool FC reached a staggering £75m transfer fee with Southampton for the 26-year-old star.
The Saints skipper was rated as one of the best Premier League defenders following his impressive two-season spell at the south coast club.
Wijnaldum is the only Dutch player in the senior squad ahead of Van Dijk’s arrival after the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder completed a £25m move to Anfield from Newcastle United in 2016.
The Liverpool FC midfielder shed light on what he spoke about with his fellow Netherlands international on the phone about the world record transfer deal.
“I was really happy when I spoke to him on the phone,” Wijnaldum told Sky Sports News.
“I told him that I was happy he’s coming to join us. I’ll have a little bit of Dutch support in the dressing room so I’m really happy!”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds will face Portuguese side FC Porto in the Champions League last 16 in February.
