Steve Nicol doesn’t want Liverpool FC to sign 25-year-old goalkeeper
The Liverpool FC legend doesn't want the Reds to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland
Steve Nicol has urged Liverpool FC to avoid signing Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland this summer.
The England international has been linked with a potential move to the Anfield outfit following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship after a disappointing season under Mark Hughes and Paul Lambert.
Butland would presumably be available in a cut price deal given Stoke’s demotion to the second tier of English football.
Liverpool FC are in the market to sign a new shot stopper in the summer transfer market after their current number one Loris Karius produced a disastrous performance in the Champions League final last weekend.
The Reds have been linked with a potential move to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker but the Merseyside outfit could be priced out of a potential deal to sign the Brazil international.
Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Karius in the Liverpool FC goal for the 2018-19 Premier League campaign.
Asked whether Liverpool FC should sign Butland in the summer transfer window, Nicol told ESPN FC:
“No [to Butland]. I think if you get Alisson or Oblak, you’re not making a mistake. You don’t lose whichever one you get but ahead of Butland.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure successive Champions League spots.
The Reds are still waiting to win their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp.
