Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he couldn’t turn down the chance to sign AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool FC spend a world record transfer fee on Alisson after the Reds agreed a £67m deal with AS Roma on Thursday evening.

Klopp had been linked with a move to sign a new goalkeeper since Loris Karius’ disastrous showing in the Champions League final.

The German goalkeeper made two mistakes in a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the European Cup showpiece.

Liverpool FC supporters were sent into meltdown after Klopp imitated that he would stick with Karius despite the 25-year-old’s two mistakes in pre season.

Alisson was linked with a move to Real Madrid and Chelsea FC in the current transfer market amid reports the Brazilian number one wanted a move to los Blancos.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website about his decision to sign Alisson in a world record deal, Klopp said:

“At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers – then it’s not a long thought, to be honest, it’s only that you need to have a little talk with the owners! They were quite excited, so we did it.

“I think it’s something we have to do. He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it’s the market, that’s how it is and we will not think a lot about it.

“It shows the value of goalkeepers, of course, in this moment. It will happen a lot in the next few weeks I guess and that’s it, so we are really happy to have him here now.

“His English is surprisingly good and he is a real personality. He has meanwhile a lot of experience in the last few years, in Europe and in Rome, he’s played there on an outstandingly high level and he did the same at the World Cup.

“It was for Brazil not too lucky, that’s how it is, but then he played a really good World Cup. So it’s just a good moment.”

The Reds are still waiting to win their first trophy under Klopp following his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ appointment back in October 2015.

Liverpool FC lost to Manchester City on penalties in February 2016 before a 3-1 loss to Sevilla in the Europa League showpiece a couple of months later.
