Liverpool backed to sign 23-year-old after missing out on Fulham starlet

Liverpool are more likely to sign Hull City left-back Andy Robertson after missing out on Fulham teenager Ryan Sessesgnon, according to James Pearce.

The Liverpool Echo reporter is claiming that the Reds are on course to sign the 23-year-old in the 2017 summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks to tackle a problem position in his Liverpool side.

The Merseyside outfit were touted with having a concrete interest in the Fulham defender before the 17-year-old signed a new three-year deal with the Championship side to end transfer speculation surrounding his future in the English capital.

Klopp was forced to use former England international James Milner in an unorthodox left-back role throughout the 2016-17 season given Alberto Moreno’s erratic performances in the German’s first term in charge at Anfield.

Liverpool will return to the Champions League next season which means Klopp will need more depth in his squad and left-back is a priority area given a lack of options in that position already.

Liverpool Echo’s Pearce believes Robertson is close to completing a move to the Anfield outfit from relegated Hull in the summer transfer window.

“Sessegnon staying at Fulham increases the chances of Liverpool going for Robertson at Hull City. Buying a left-back is nailed on, as long as Moreno accepts that he needs to move on,” Pearce told the Liverpool Echo.

The Scotland international scored one goal in 33 appearances in the Premier League last season.
