Craig Bellamy has admitted that Liverpool’s lack of success in the summer transfer market was a big disappointment.
The Merseyside outfit missed out on sign Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window after the Saints refused to sell the Netherlands internationals.
Liverpool were also forced to wait another 12 months for Naby Keita after the Reds had to settle for a £48m deal to sign the RB Leipzig midfielder next summer.
The Reds did manage to get deals for AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hull defender Andy Robertson in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool’s failure to sign a new centre-half has come back to haunt Klopp after conceding 16 times in nine games in the Premier League so far.
Former Reds striker Bellamy says Liverpool are paying the price for Klopp’s transfer failings in the summer transfer window.
“It’s the disappointing thing about the summer,” Bellamy told Sky Sports.
“We knew where they needed strengthening. They weren’t able to get it over the line and improve with one or two players.”
The Reds are in ninth place in the Premier League table.
Liverpool have only signed Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Robertson to improve their defence since Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
