Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to demand more support from the club’s owners in the transfer market.

Liverpool endured a frustrating summer transfer window after the Merseyside outfit missed out on two of their top targets.

The Reds were unable to get a deal over the line to sign Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the summer.

Indeed, the 26-year-old even handed in a transfer request but Van Dijk wasn’t given permission to leave by the Saints.

Liverpool pursued Guinea internatonal Naby Keita in the summer transfer window and made a number of bids for the versatile midfeilder.

However, the Reds had to settle for a £48m deal to sign Keita at the end of the 2017-18 season after RB Leipzig refused to sell their star man this summer.

Liverpool boss signed Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hull City defender Andy Robertson.

However, Liverpool have only managed to win three of their opening eight Premier League games to leave the Reds well off the pace in the title race.

Former Reds midfielder Murphy claimed that Klopp should be demanding much more help from his board.

“Liverpool should spend more,” Murphy told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool should have done more in the transfer window.

“If he isn’t happy with that, he has to air his views because he is being judged on it.

“He is the one who is going to get the chop if they don’t get better. He needs to go in and demand what they need.”
