Ian Wright names two players Liverpool FC should try to sign in January
Ian Wright tells Liverpool FC to consider moves to sign Virgil van Dijk and Toby Alderweireld in the January transfer window

Ian Wright has urged Liverpool FC to consider making moves to sign Virgil van Dijk and Toby Alderweireld in the January transfer window.
The Reds have been earning plenty of praise for their impressive attacking performances under Jurgen Klopp so far this season but the same cannot be said of their defence.
Liverpool FC’s leaky rearguard has been the subject of much debate in recent weeks, especially because the Reds were so heavily linked with a bid to sign Southampton defender Van Dijk in the summer.
The Merseyside outfit are bound to be linked with a number of players who could possibly strengthen their defensive options in the coming days as the January transfer window draws closer.
And former Arsenal legend Wright believes that the signing of either Van Dijk from Southampton or Alderweireld from Spurs would signal the club’s long-term ambitions to Philippe Coutinho, who continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Wright said: “It would be a shame for Coutinho to miss out on going to Barcelona. That’s why players will understand why he was under pressure to force a move.
“If he doesn’t get to go there, Liverpool have to do something [in January].
“Liverpool have to be going big for Van Dijk and Alderweireld. That’s the kind of thing that will make Coutinho go, ‘OK, I get it now’.
“They’ve have an offensive line that can challenge. They need to do it in terms of the defensive line. If they’re going to do it, they need to go for those two guys.”
Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Friday night.
The Reds head into the game in good form and one point above Arsenal in fourth place in the Premier League table.
