Liverpool FC could miss out on top 25-year-old Serie A defender – report
Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij could sign a new deal with Lazio to end talk of a move to the Premier League, according to reports

Liverpool could be set for further disappointment in their attempts to improve the defence as Stefan de Vrij gets ready to sign a new deal with Lazio, according to reports.
FourFourTwo is reporting that the Netherlands international has emerged as a target for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve his defence in the January transfer window.
The same article states that De Vrij is in talks with Lazio to sign a contract extension following their 2-1 win at defending Serie A champions Juventus at the weekend.
Given the Dutch centre-half’s performance in the Lazio defence, it’s hardly a surprise manager Simone Inzaghi is looking to secure De Vrij’s long-term future in Rome.
The 25-year-old centre-half has scored two goals in seven appearances in Serie A this term to help Lazio hoist themselves up to third place and five points behind leaders Juventus.
Liverpool were heavily linked with a move to sign De Vrij’s Netherlands team-mate Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit ultimately missed out on the 26-year-old centre-half despite Van Dijk handing in a transfer request at Southampton in August.
Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Manchester United on Saturday to keep their first clean sheet since August.
