Liverpool could beat Chelsea to signature of top 24-year-old from rivals – report
Liverpool FC are now firmly in the frame to try and sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal, say reports
Liverpool have made a “huge push” to try and beat Chelsea to the signature of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before the close of the transfer window, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Reds are looking to step up their bid to try and bring the 24-year-old England midfielder to Anfield from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The midfielder’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been touted as possible destinations for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
However, the Daily Mirror is now claiming that Liverpool are ready to step up their efforts to try to sign the midfielder before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The same report says Arsenal are ready to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer if they receive a bid of more than £35m, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The story also says that Chelsea were believed to be leading the race for his signature, but Liverpool have now firmly entered the frame.
Oxlade-Chamberlain could feature for Arsenal when the Gunners take on Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
