Top defender urged to go on strike to force Liverpool transfer
John Aldridge sends a message to Virgil van Dijk about a potential move to Liverpool this summer

Virgil van Dijk should go on strike at Southampton to force through a move to Liverpool this summer, according to John Aldridge.
The Reds moved to sign the Netherlands international earlier this month amid talk of Liverpool spending a club-record fee on Van Dijk this summer.
However, the 18-time English champions were forced to backtrack in their pursuit of the centre-half after Liverpool issued a statement to apologising to Southampton for a “misunderstanding” about Van Dijk.
The Merseyside announced that they were ending their interest in the Dutch defender in what a significant blow to their summer transfer plans.
However, former Liverpool striker Aldridge believes Van Dijk could still secure a move to Anfield if the former Celtic man goes on strike at St Mary’s.
“Players and their agents hold all the power these days and if he says he won’t kick another ball for Southampton and demands a move, it will happen,” Aldridge is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
Liverpool have only made one signing in the summer transfer window after recruiting England Under-20 international Dominic Solanke in a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea.
The Reds finished fourth place in the Premier League table last term, securing a return to the Champions League next term.
