Liverpool FC have been told that they will need to pay as much as £45m to secure the signing of Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Italian outlet Calciomercato, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that the Reds have been quoted an “eye-watering” price to sign Barella this summer.
The story says that Cagliari have set the £45m asking price for the central midfielder to ward off potential suitors from around Europe ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been in good form for Sardinian side Cagliari this season and has attracted interest from the Reds as well as Juventus, according to the same story.
The Italy Under-21 international has scored three goals and made one assist in 23 Serie A appearances for Cagliari so far this season.
Liverpool FC are likely to be on the lookout for reinforcements in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks to continue making progress at Anfield.
The Reds, who are looking to finish in the top four again this term, should have plenty of cash at their disposal after they secured around £140m for the sale of Philippe Coutinho to FC Barcelona in the January transfer window.
