Pat Nevin identifies signing Liverpool FC need to make this summer
The Chelsea FC legend believes Liverpool FC need to sign another centre-half in the summer transfer window
Jurgen Klopp needs to sign a centre-half in the summer to complete his overhaul of the Liverpool FC defence, according to Pat Nevin.
The Reds signed Virgil van Dijk in a club record £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
Klopp made the Netherlands international the most expensive defender in the world such was Liverpool FC’s desperation to sign Van Dijk.
The 26-year-old scored a late winner in a 2-1 victory over Everton in the FA Cup third round on his Anfield debut back in January.
Van Dijk has improved the Liverpool FC defence since his arrival at the Merseyside outfit from their Premier League rivals.
However, his centre-half partners Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have both struggled alongside Van Dijk.
Reports in the British media have linked Liverpool FC with Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij in recent weeks as a possible summer signing.
Former Chelsea FC star Nevin believes Liverpool FC need to sign a another centre-half in the summer transfer window.
“They are three quarters of the way there [to fixing defence],” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“Liverpool need another centre-half. Van Dijk will be ok. There is still a weakness there.
“Whoever has been playing in the other position hasn’t been strong enough.”
Liverpool FC beat FC Porto 5-0 over two legs of their Champions League last-16 clash to secure a place in the last-eight draw.
The Reds are in fourth place in the Premier League table as Klopp’s men look to qualify for the Champions League in successive seasons.
