Philippe Coutinho sends direct message to Liverpool fans about transfer reports
Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho reiterates his intention to see out his current contract with the Reds despite links to Barcelona
Philippe Coutinho has reiterated his desire to remain at Liverpool despite talk of a summer move to Barcelona.
The Brazil international has been regularly linked with a move to the Catalan side over the past couple of seasons since Luis Suarez moved to Camp Nou in 2014.
Coutinho has blossomed into Liverpool’s key player since the Uruguay international’s departure, although the No10 has been unable to fire Jurgen Klopp’s side to silverware.
The 25-year-old scored 13 goals and made seven assists in 30 appearances in the Premier League last term as Liverpool finished in the top four.
Coutinho is currently on international duty with Brazil with a place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia up for grabs.
Speaking to the media after Brazil’s 1-0 loss to bitter rivals Argentina at the weekend, Liverpool playmaker Coutinho is quoted as saying by the Independent:
“Talking about this is complicated. I have a contract with my club and it is long,
“So my focus is on the present and the national team. My focus is here.”
Liverpool signed Coutinho in an £8.5m deal from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Reds secured a return to the Champions League next term thanks to a fourth-place finish.
