Liverpool FC didn’t re-sign Philippe Coutinho due to concerns about the cost of the deal, according to a report in England.
The Athletic, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Brazil international was eager to secure a move back to Liverpool FC before his loan move to Bayern Munich went through on Tuesday.
The same article states that Coutinho’s representatives made it clear that the South American playmaker was looking to move back to the 18-time English champions this summer.
According to the same story, FC Barcelona were also prepared to sell the 27-year-old for the right price after Coutinho struggled to have an impact at the Spanish champions.
The report goes on to add that Liverpool FC didn’t show an interest in putting together what would have been a costly package to re-sign Coutinho this summer.
The Athletic claim that Jurgen Klopp wasn’t convinced that Coutinho could improve his current options at Liverpool FC despite the Brazilian playmaker being one of the best players in the Premier League when he left the club in January 2018.
Coutinho spent five seasons at Liverpool FC, where he established himself as one of the top attacking midfielders in the English top flight under Brendan Rodgers and Klopp.
