Jurgen Klopp told to sign 26-year-old to replace Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool FC
John Aldridge suggests that Liverpool FC should sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City

John Aldridge has suggested that Liverpool FC should make a move to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City following Philippe Coutinho’s big-money transfer to Barcelona.
The Reds confirmed on Saturday that they had agreed a deal to sell Coutinho to Barcelona for a transfer fee believed to be worth as much as £145m.
Liverpool FC have already confirmed their first signing of the January transfer window after concluding a deal to land Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
However, the Merseyside outfit will be widely expected to make some more signings this month after letting one of their best players leave the club in the shape of Coutinho.
Mahrez is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest attacking talents and he helped Leicester to win the Premier League title in the 2015-16 campaign.
And former Liverpool FC star Aldridge has suggested that the 26-year-old Algeria international would be a top signing for the Reds this month.
Aldridge told BBC Radio 5 live on Sunday: “It is a lot of money and Liverpool have to spend it wisely.
“They have spent £75m of it wisely on Virgil van Dijk – a player we have needed for some time, a leader at the back – but Coutinho needs replacing and we have to do it ASAP.
“Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez has played in the Premier League for some years and everybody has seen the ability he has got, so he ticks a lot of boxes.
“You need that type of player similar to Coutinho who sees that pass, can do something extraordinary outside the box, can bend it in the top corner and is good on free-kicks as well.”
Liverpool FC are now preparing for their crunch Premier League showdown against leaders Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running.
