Journalist hints at surprise Liverpool FC signing

Liverpool FC could make a surprise signing in the centre-half department before the close of the transfer window, Ian McGarry has claimed.

The Reds have wasted no time strengthening their spine ahead of the new Premier League season following their Champions League final setback.

Liverpool FC started their summer spending with the £40m addition of Brazil international Fabinho from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The Reds finally added Guinea international Naby Keita to their squad after agreeing a £48m deal with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last term.

Liverpool FC won the race to sign Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri in a cut price deal from Stoke City to improve their attacking options.

Jurgen Klopp went on to spend a world record fee on a goalkeeper after Alisson Becker moved to Liverpool FC from AS Roma in a £67m deal.

However, Virgil van Dijk, who cost £75m back in January, is thought to be keen for Klopp to sign a new centre-half partner for his record signing.

Daily Record reporter McGarry claimed that Liverpool FC could make something of a left-field signing to improve their back four this summer.

“There is not many suitable candidates out there,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.

“Look out for a left field centre-half signing who Klopp hopes can progress and become Van Dijk’s centre-half partner.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
