Michael Owen: What I really think about Liverpool FC signing Virgil van Dijk
The Liverpool FC legend issues his backing for the Reds' latest signing Virgil van Dijk

Michael Owen is backing Virgil van Dijk to be a “great success” at Liverpool FC following his world-record move.
Liverpool FC agreed a £75m transfer fee with Southampton for the transfer of Van Dijk on Wednesday evening ahead of the deals completion on 1 January.
The Netherlands international has established as one of the Premier League’s top centre-halves during two seasons at Southampton.
Van Dijk was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool FC in the summer, but the Reds were unable to get a deal over the line despite the player’s desire to move.
The Dutch defender was also touted as a potential option for defending Premier League champions Chelsea and runaway leaders Manchester City.
But Liverpool FC have finally landed their top defensive target ahead of the second half of the 2017-18 season.
The former Liverpool FC striker Owen is confident that Van Dijk will prove a big hit at Anfield despite the centre-half’s hefty price tag.
“The Reds announced on Wednesday they will sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk for £75m once the transfer window opens next month and they will be delighted to have finally got their man. I think he will be a great success at Anfield and wish him all the very best,” Owen told BetVictor.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad options.
