Virgil van Dijk is eager to sign a new deal at Liverpool FC following their Champions League success, according to a report in England.

ESPN is reporting that the Netherlands international is eager to commit to the 18-time English champions following their successful season.

The same article states that Van Dijk is enthusiastic about committing his long-term future to Liverpool FC after informing the club of his desire to remain at Anfield.

According to the same story, neither Van Dijk nor Liverpool FC are in a rush to get a contract extension signed – but both parties are confident an agreement will be reached.

Van Dijk was named the man of the match in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final in Madrid last weekend.

The 27-year-old was named the PFA player of the year after Liverpool FC finished in second place with the best defensive record in the league.

Van Dijk moved to Liverpool FC in a £75m deal from Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window to become the world’s most expensive defender.

The Dutch centre-half has already played in successive Champions League finals since his record move to the Anfield outfit 18 months ago.

Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win over Spurs in the Champions League final was their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
