Liverpool could still sign 25-year-old star this summer, claims pundit
Stuart Pearce says Liverpool could still wrap up a deal to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer
Liverpool could still yet conclude a deal to sign defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, according to Stuart Pearce.
The Merseyside outfit were thought to be closing in on the signing of Van Dijk from Southampton last week before the Reds were forced to apologise to the Saints for their conduct and ended their interest in the player last week.
Liverpool are still thought to be on the lookout for a number of signings this summer as Jurgen Klopp prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
And former Manchester City manager Pearce feels that a deal for the Reds to sign Van Dijk from Southampton could still be on the cards.
Pearce is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: ”I still, at this moment in time, wouldn’t rule Liverpool out.
“If they meet Southampton’s valuation I think they will shake hands, say they’ve got a good deal out of it and sanction the player to go.”
Liverpool are hoping to use the lure of Champions League football to attract some star names to Anfield this summer.
The Reds finished fourth in the Premier League table as they secured a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
