Liverpool FC keeping tabs on 20-year-old USA international – report
Liverpool FC are weighing up a January move to sign Weston McKennie from Schalke, say reports
Liverpool FC are considering a move to sign USA international Weston McKennie from Schalke, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Reds are pondering a move to land the 20-year-old after he impressed scouts in his first two seasons in the Bundesliga.
According to the same article, Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp will decide whether to make a £20m move to try and sign McKennie this month as he looks to bolster his Reds squad.
Although he plays more as a midfielder, McKennie can also operate in defence, and the same story says that would be attractive to Klopp, whose side have been hit by injuries to the likes of Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent weeks.
According to the same report, McKennie has been on Liverpool FC’s radar for two years, and it remains to be seen whether they will make a bid this month or not.
The USA international has scored one goal and made one assist in 13 Bundesliga games for Schalke so far this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home clash against Crystal Palace at Anfield.
The Reds are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
