Xherdan Shaqiri warned about Liverpool FC move
ESPN FC pundit Paul Mariner doesn't believe Xherdan Shaqiri will get regular game time at Liverpool FC
Xherdan Shaqiri has been warned that he won’t get regular game time at Liverpool FC if he moves to Anfield.
The Switzerland international has been linked with a potential move to the Reds over the past week or so.
Liverpool FC were thought to be in the market to sign Lyon captain Nabil Fekir to improve their attacking options.
However, the Merseyside outfit were reported to have pulled out of a deal due to concerns about Fekir’s right knee.
Shaqiri has been touted as a potential alternative to Fekir after he was relegated to the Championship with Stoke City.
Former Arsenal star Paul Mariner believes Shaqiri won’t command a first-team place if he moves to Liverpool FC.
“If they are going to be battling on all fronts, he will be a squad player at £10 or £12m,” Mariner told ESPN FC.
“He is a luxury player. He has qualities. I don’t think he will be anywhere near the first team. If he does sign, he will be in rotation.”
The Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev last month.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure their continued participation in the Champions League.
