‘Liverpool have better chance of top-four finish without Luis Suárez’

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James believes the Reds have a better chance of a top-four finish without Luis Suárez

David James believes Liverpool have a better chance of securing a return to Champions League football without Arsenal target Luis Suárez.

The Reds striker’s future at the Merseyside outfit is still very much in doubt after the Uruguay international was the subject of two Arsenal bids.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who led the club to seventh-place finish in his first season at Anfield, has been emphatic in his stance that Suárez isn’t for sale.

But former Reds goalkeeper James reckons his former side can develop an “unpredictability” without Suárez in their ranks – and finish in the top four.

“I think the club, in letting him go, can actually then develop a lot more unpredictability about them, in the sense that they will have more options to play,” James said.

“[Daniel] Sturridge came in and was their second top goalscorer in half a season and you have Stevie G [Gerrard] there as always bolstering those numbers but there is so much focus on one player.

“Last season Liverpool finished seventh. I think without Suárez, they have a better chance [of finishing in the top four].”
