Liverpool injury update: Joe Allen on track for return
Joe Allen says he is close to making a return for Liverpool following his spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury

Joe Allen has revealed that he is close to making a return for Liverpool following his spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
The Wales international has not featured for the Reds since 27 August after picking up the problem in the League Cup clash against Notts County.
But the 23-year-old says he is on course to make a return to first-team action and could be available for selection for Liverpool’s next game against Newcastle United on 19 October.
“I’m almost there, basically,” Allen said. “The plan is to get back into training, get a good few days leading up to the Newcastle game and hopefully I’ll be available for selection from there on.
“It has been a bit of a frustrating time, it always is when you’re injured, but I’m finally getting there. It was the one I had in the back of my mind anyway, so it has worked out quite nicely in that sense.”
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho is expected to be out of action until the end of the month after he underwent shoulder surgery.
