Ian Rush believes Liverpool FC can challenge Manchester City if the Reds show consistency next season.

The Merseyside outfit have been very active in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp worked on improving his squad.

Liverpool FC brought in Brazil international Fabinho in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco to improve his squad.

The Reds have also snapped up African midfielder Naby Keita in a £48m switch from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Klopp added more attacking flair to his team with the addition of Xherdan Shaqiri in a cut price £13.5m deal from relegated Stoke City.

The German head coach spent a world record fee on a goalkeeper after Alisson Becker moved to Liverpool FC in a £67m from AS Roma.

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and a staggering 30 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Former Reds striker Rush tipped Liverpool FC to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next term.

“The signings that they’ve made…” Rush told the Second Captain podcast. “Liverpool beat Man City three times last year.

“They finished 25 points behind them which is a hell of a lot. Liverpool on their day can beat anyone.

“If they can get that consistency, they will run them close.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds are still waiting to win their first trophy under German head coach Klopp after his appointment in October 2015.
