‘Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers deserves 100% backing’
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers deserves 100 per cent backing of all Reds fans, says John Aldridge
Brendan Rodgers deserves the 100 per cent backing of every Liverpool fan, according to John Aldridge.
The Reds manager masterminded their emphatic 5-1 victory over second-placed Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday, with Martin Skrtel and Raheem Sterling scoring braces, whilst Daniel Sturridge netted his 15th league strike of the season.
Rodgers has put in place a style of football which is just brilliant to watch
Liverpool are currently fourth in the table ahead of a tricky trip to Fulham on Wednesday night, and former Reds striker Aldridge feels Rodgers was rewarded for his bold approach to the top-four encounter at the weekend.
“It was great to hear the Kop chanting Rodgers’ name so loudly. More and more fans are starting to believe in him,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“Rodgers has been a breath of fresh air and he deserves the 100 per cent backing of every Liverpool fan.
“There have been times at Anfield this season when Kenny Dalglish’s name or even Rafa Benitez’s name has been sung ahead of him. I’ve been sat thinking ‘what’s all that about?’
“Rodgers has put in place a style of football which is just brilliant to watch. He’s our manager and fans should show him how much he means to them and show their appreciation for how much enjoyment he has given us at home this season.”
He continued: “Rodgers had two options on Saturday. He could have played Joe Allen and been cautious or played Philippe Coutinho and been bold.
“He went for the latter and backed us to do to Arsenal what we did to Everton. That’s the way to go against Fulham tomorrow night.
“We can’t waste what happened on Saturday. After thrashing Everton, we allowed our standards to slip and only got a point at West Brom.”
