Charlie Nicholas sends warning to Liverpool about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The Arsenal legend warns Jurgen Klopp that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will want more first-team football at Liverpool
Charlie Nicholas believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will already be getting frustrated with a lack of first-team football at Liverpool.
The England international opted to move to the Reds in a £40m deal from their title rivals Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
Liverpool signed Oxlade-Chamberlain to add more depth to their squad as Jurgen Klopp’s side fight on four fronts this term.
Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular during his seven-season stay at Arsenal despite his undoubted talent.
The 24-year-old was once rated as one of England’s most-exciting talents but Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career has stalled in recent seasons.
And Klopp has only handed the England international a flurry of substitute appearances against Manchester City, Sevilla and Burnley so far.
Indeed, the Liverpool boss made wholesale changes to his starting line-up for the visit of Burnley but Oxlade-Chamberlain remained on the bench for the 1-1 draw.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas warned Klopp that Oxlade-Chamberlain won’t take long to grow frustrated at the lack of first-team football at Anfield.
“He nearly got involved with setting something up but it was only 10 minutes,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“It’s not enough. This lad came to Liverpool to perform and play and take the pressure. You’re trying to work out where Oxlade-Chamberlain fits into the system.
“He’s just turned up at this wonderful football club but he must be getting a bit agitated already that he’s only getting limited game-time.”
Arsenal lost 4-0 to Liverpool in what was Oxlade-Chamberlain’s final appearance in a Gunners shirt before his switch to Anfield.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window.
