Gary Neville: Liverpool really need 24-year-old to get over stuttering start
The Man United legend wants to see more from Liverpool summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Gary Neville believes Liverpool desperately need Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to get over his stuttering start to his Anfield career.
The Reds are three games without a win following back-to-back stalemates with Newcastle United before a humiliating 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool are in ninth place in the Premier League table after conceding 16 times in their last nine top-flight games to raise questions about their top-four challenge.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has found his first-team opportunities limited so far this term, despite moving to Liverpool in a £40m deal from top-four rivals Arsenal in the summer.
The 24-year-old was a first-half substitute in the first half of Liverpool’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham at Wembley with trailing 2-0 to the north London outfit.
Former Manchester United defender Neville wants to see Liverpool summer signing Oxlade-Chamberlain come into the Reds teams and have a bigger impact on their performances.
“It’s been a stuttering start to his Liverpool career,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“His team are really struggling and they need him.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table and secured a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Arsenal midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain.
