Ian Wright predicts where Liverpool will finish this season
The Arsenal legend believes Liverpool are capable of finishing in the top four and getting to the Champions League knockout phase
Ian Wright has declared that a top-four finish and reaching the Champions League knockout phase would represent a good season for Liverpool.
The Reds have qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2014-15 when Liverpool failed to get out of a group containing Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been given an even kinder draw this time around as the Reds were pitted against Spanish side Sevilla, Russian outfit Spartak Moscow and Slovenian minnows Maribor.
Liverpool dismissed the challenge of Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the playoff round with a resounding 6-3 aggregate win thanks to a 4-2 victory over the German club at Anfield last week.
The Merseyside outfit registered their first Premier League win of the 2017-18 campaign after Liverpool were 1-0 winners against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Liverpool would be satisfied with a top-four finish and reaching the Champions League last 16 in their second full season under Klopp.
“A good finish in the top four and a good run in the Champions League would be a good progress for Liverpool,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of Liverpool’s home clash against Arsenal on Sunday.
“They are very capable of it. They do need to do something about their defence.”
Klopp took over the reins of the Merseyside outfit from Brendan Rodgers back in October 2015.
