Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he hopes to conclude “one or two” transfer deals before Liverpool set off for their pre-season tour of America at the end of the week.

The Reds were pipped to the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson by Tottenham Hotspur last week and are yet to bring in any new faces after Rodgers took the Anfield reins from Kenny Dalglish.

And the Northern Irishman revealed that the Merseysiders are interested in “three or four” players but refused to be drawn on specific targets.

“We’ve made three or four enquiries for players,” Rodgers told a news conference on Monday. “We hope to conclude one deal this week, maybe two.

“A whole raft of players have been linked but I will never speak publicly about specific targets.

“There won’t be lots of players coming in, just three or four tweaks. We don’t have a wheelbarrow full of money. There is not the money that people think there is, and I want to work with and improve the players we already have here.”

The Liverpool boss has already said that he intends to keep Joe Cole at Anfield following the midfielder’s return from a season-long loan at Lille last season.
