Journalist explains why Liverpool are unlikely to sign 23-year-old from rivals
Liverpool Echo reporter James Pearce has played down Liverpool's chances of signing Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool are unlikely to sign Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, according to James Pearce.
The Liverpool Echo reporter believes the Reds could struggle to complete a deal to sign the England international despite uncertainty surrounding his future at the Emirates Stadium.
Like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Oxlade-Chamberlain has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Gunners and the England star has failed to agree a new contract with the north London club.
Inevitably, the former Southampton star has been linked with a potential summer move to Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.
According to reports in the English media earlier this week, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a keen admirer of the versatile midfielder, who can play centrally or on the winger.
However, while Oxlade-Chamberlain has concerns about his playing time at Arsenal, Liverpool Echo reporter Pearce reckons the Reds could struggle to guarantee the England international a regular first-team place at Anfield too.
“What makes me doubt whether Oxlade-Chamberlain to Anfield will happen is guarantees over game time,” Pearce told the Liverpool Echo.
“I think he’d be an excellent squad player for Liverpool but I wouldn’t say he’d walk into the side.”
Liverpool have signed Chelsea forward Dominic Solanke and AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window so far.
