Dietmar Hamann explains why Liverpool should sign three-time Champions League winner
The former Liverpool midfielder believes Pepe would be an excellent addition to Jurgen Klopp's squad
Dietmar Hamann believes Pepe would be a great asset to Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp opted to sign the Portugal international this summer.
The 34-year-old is set to leave Real Madrid this summer amid talk of a move to Paris Saint-Germain after the veteran defender failed to agree a new contract with los Blancos.
Pepe spent 10 seasons at Real Madrid and won three La Liga crowns and the Champions League three times to establish himself as one of Europe’s most-successful defenders.
However, the Portuguese defender has a reputation as a hot-headed defender, which Klopp could find off putting if the Liverpool manager were to consider signing Pepe.
But former Liverpool midfielder Hamann played down concerns about Pepe’s temperament and ability to maintain his composure in high pressure situations.
Responding to a Liverpool fan on Twitter who suggested Pepe was a rash defender that lacked positional awareness, the former Germany international wrote:
“Look what he’s won my friend. If he was that rash he wouldn’t have played for biggest club in the world that long. He’s a winner and is class”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
