The Liverpool legend wants Jurgen Klopp to sign more quality players to bolster his options on the bench
John Barnes says Liverpool need to make some quality additions capable of making an impact from the bench next term.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge of the Anfield outfit.
Liverpool secured a return to the Champions League thanks to their top-four finish ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table.
Klopp has already been linked with a host of different potential signings, which is inevitable ahead of their return to the Champions League.
Liverpool struggled badly with injuries in the second half of the season as Klopp’s bench looked depleted.
Speaking to Ladbrokes about what signings Liverpool need to make in the summer, former Reds captain Barnes urged Klopp to improve his squad depth.
“What Liverpool need is quality in numbers – especially with the Champions League coming along,” Barnes said.
“I remember looking at our bench towards the end of the season and it was looking a little thin in proven quality.”
Liverpool signed seven players in the 2016 summer transfer window as Klopp looked to overhaul his squad following an eighth-place finish.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
