Pundit hopeful Jurgen Klopp could still complete this Liverpool summer signing
Micky Quinn is refusing to concede defeat in Liverpool's bid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer
Micky Quinn is refusing to conceded defeat in the race to sign Virgil van Dijk despite Liverpool pulling out of a potential deal on Wednesday.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Netherlands international in recent weeks following a fourth-place finish last season.
Some bookmakers stopped taking bets on Liverpool to sign Van Dijk with a deal thought to be almost complete for the Southampton centre-half.
However, in a plot twist, the Reds issued a statement apologising to Southampton for the “misunderstanding” and “media speculation” surrounding Van Dijk this summer.
Liverpool added that they had ended their interest in signing the former Celtic defender despite Van Dijk seemingly starting the summer as a top target.
Former Newcastle United striker Quinn, who is a self-proclaimed Liverpool fan, is still hopeful that a deal could still happen to bring Van Dijk to Liverpool.
“Let’s hope it does happen and Liverpool don’t muck it up if they do go back in for him,” Quinn told talkSPORT.
Liverpool have already agreed a deal to sign Dominic Solanke from Chelsea on 1 July.
