Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers tight-lipped on January activity

Brendan Rodgers has remained tight-lipped on potential signings at Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The Reds were dealt a blow at the weekend when it emerged that Daniel Sturridge will miss six to eight weeks due to an ankle injury which he picked up in training.

Liverpool are also without first-choice left-back Jose Enrique, whilst Brazilian Philippe Coutinho and Kolo Toure are expected to feature after their respective injuries.

Rodgers was widely hailed after he signed Coutinho and Sturridge for a combined £21m last January, but the Liverpool was coy on potential activity next month.

“I’m only really focusing on where we’re at in this moment time, which is with the group of players that we have,” said Rodgers.

“I think every window for us will be exactly the same – if there’s a player that we think can improve our squad and in particular the team I’m sure we will be able to go in and get that player.”

He added: “It was always going to be the case that if we had a few injuries to key players that it would leave us light but it’s no different to probably a lot of squads.

“But for us, it’s even more prominent because Daniel Sturridge and young Coutinho not playing are good players.

“We’ve got other players that are working very hard and they’ll get an opportunity now. And now the responsibility falls on everyone to keep up our performance level.”
