Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers says the Reds are working "very hard" to sign new players in the January window

Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool are working “very hard” on potential signings in the January transfer window.
The Reds had been heavily linked with a move for Basel winger Mohamed Salah before Chelsea agreed an £11m deal with the Swiss club on Thursday, with the Egyptian yet to agree personal terms and complete a medical.

Liverpool manager Rodgers is also believed to be keen to sign Spartak Moscow’s Romulo as a replacement for injured Brazil international Lucas Leiva, who is sidelined due to a medial ligament injury in his right knee.
Whilst the 40-year-old is keen to strengthen his squad this month, the Northern Irishman is happy to rely on the club’s up-and-coming prospects if Liverpool are unable to land their top targets.
“The club has been working hard on a number of targets,” Rodgers said.
“I know the club has been working very hard to get players in. I’ll leave that to them and see how they can get on.
“This is a brilliant club and we try to get players in that fit for the club for now. We need players that can come in now and help us. January is a very difficult market.
“The team has improved over the last year, so it’s hard to bring in players in this window that can improve the team.
“I’d rather wait and look at our young players than just bring in one or two squad players.”
