Liverpool transfers: Jamie Carragher doesn't feel Luis Suárez should be criticised too much if he leaves the Reds this summer

Jamie Carragher believes Luis Suarez shouldn’t be criticised “too much” if the striker leaves Liverpool to move to Spain this summer.

The Uruguay international is being tipped to complete a reported £63m move to Barcelona in the current transfer window, with Chilean Alexis Sanchez acting as a possible makeweight in the deal.

If he did go, I wouldn’t criticise him too much

Suarez, who is banned from all football-related activity for the next four months after biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season.

But Carragher can understand that the 27-year-old South American may have a desire to play in La Liga after experiencing Eredivisie and the Premier League already in his career.

“If he did go, I wouldn’t criticise him too much,” Carragher told 5times.

“Obviously I’d be disappointed we sign players every season from somewhere else. That’s ok. We have to accept that.

“I know we all think what is bigger than Liverpool, and Steven Gerrard and I would say that as we’re local lads.

“But sometimes when you have a foreign player come in, they maybe don’t see it as much as we do or the fans do.

“They see their career as a whole package, ‘I’ve played for Ajax, I’ve played in the Premier League’, maybe playing for one of the La Liga giants is part of how he sees his whole career. Who knows?”
