Liverpool transfers: Pepe Reina rubbishes Atletico Madrid link
Liverpool transfers: Pepe Reina says he will hold talks with the Reds amid reports of interest from Atletico and Barcelona
Pepe Reina has confirmed that he is set to hold talks with Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Spain international, who is part of Vicente Del Bosque’s World Cup squad, spent the season on loan at Napoli after Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet last summer.
I haven’t been in contact with Atletico Madrid. Anyway, I’m sure there’ll be desperate to keep hold of Courtois
Napoli have been linked with a permanent move for the 31-year-old goalkeeper after his role in their Coppa Italia triumph – but Reina won’t look at his future until after the World Cup.
“Right now I am just thinking about the national team,” Reina told Cadena SER. “With regards to a new club, first I’ll have to talk with Liverpool.”
Reina did play down previous speculation linking the former Villarreal shot stopper with a move to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid after the Catalan side signed Ter Stegen as Victor Valdes’s replacement.
“There’s been nothing from Barcelona. They have only just bought Ter Stegen – so that position is filled,” Reina added.
“And I haven’t been in contact with Atletico Madrid. Anyway, I’m sure there’ll be desperate to keep hold of Courtois.”
