Liverpool transfers: Pepe Reina won’t return, says Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers doesn't expect Pepe Reina to return to the Reds when his Napoli loan ends
Brendan Rodgers believes it is unlikely that Pepe Reina will return to Liverpool when his Napoli loan comes to an end.
The Spain international linked up with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez last summer after Liverpool signed Simon Mignolet in a £12m deal from Sunderland.
Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move
Reina was heavily linked with a move to former club Barcelona with his compatriot Victor Valdes set to leave the Catalan side at the end of the current season.
And Liverpool manager Rodgers doubts the 31-year-old will line up for Liverpool again, pointing to Reina’s goodbye letter written to the Reds fans.
Rodgers said “He wrote a goodbye letter didn’t he?”
“Obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move because he penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with (Rafael Benitez) and thanked him for his time for Liverpool,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.
“So, for me, it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”
