Liverpool transfers: ‘Reds need to make statement of intent in January’
Liverpool transfers: Former Reds midfielder David Thompson wants Brendan Rodgers to make a statement of intent this month

Liverpool need to make a statement of intent in the January transfer window, according to former Reds midfielder David Thompson.
Brendan Rodgers has been heavily linked with a move for Basel winger Mohamed Salah but could face competition from top-four rivals Chelsea this month.
The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League table ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield next Tuesday.
And Thompson, who spent four seasons at Liverpool, feels his former side must land a big-name signing to help the club push on in the second half of the season.

Another ex-Red, John Aldridge, claimed that Liverpool should sign a defensive midfielder before landing Basel star Salah in his Liverpool Echo column on Tuesday.
“It’s positive to see Liverpool trying to add to their squad as they look to agree a deal for Mohamed Salah,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“However, questions will be asked about whether a winger is the priority considering how we are leaking goals.
“I’ve been saying for some time that we need another defensive midfielder and Lucas Leiva’s injury increases the need to sign that type of player.
“We need a physical presence in the middle of the park – someone strong, quick and dynamic.”
