Liverpool transfers: Rickie Lambert in disbelief over Reds switch
Liverpool transfers: Rickie Lambert admits that he is in disbelief after signing for the Anfield club
Rickie Lambert has expressed his disbelief at signing for Liverpool after the Reds confirmed the arrival of the striker from Southampton in a deal worth around £4m.
The 32-year-old England international, who was on the club’s books as a youth player, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds after passing a medical at Melwood.
I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did think the chance had gone
“I can’t believe it,” said Liverpool-born Lambert. “I’ve loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago – and I haven’t stopped loving it since.
“I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn’t think the chance would come.
“I know how big Liverpool are – and it means everything to me – but I know what is important; I know it’s what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that’s what matters, and that’s what I’ll be focused on.
“I have thought about [this moment] all my life. It was something I always thought of when I was a kid.
“When I knew of the interest from Liverpool, the first thought was of playing and scoring in front of the Kop and how it might be a possibility.
“Now that I’ve signed, it could become a reality. I know what I need to do, I know what matters.”
Lambert, who is part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup, scored 117 goals in 235 appearances for Southampton.
