Liverpool transfers: Rodgers rejects Tottenham comparisons
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers insists that the Reds were always out to bolster their squad this summer

Brendan Rodgers has rejected comparisons between Liverpool’s summer spending and Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment drive last year.
The Merseyside club have so far brought in six new signings as Rodgers readies his squad for a return to the Champions League next season following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
There have been suggestions that the Reds are implementing a similar strategy to the one used by Spurs last summer after the north London club sold Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.
However, Rodgers has insisted that Liverpool were always out to increase their squad depth this summer.
The players that we have brought in have a clear profile of the role that we want them to play

“We are a different club and it’s a different vision that we have here,” said Rodgers.
“There is a strategy behind what we are doing. We were talking with the recruitment team last season and we knew that we needed to improve the depth of our squad.
“Last season, we weren’t strong enough in depth in numbers and quality so we were always earmarked in the summer to bring in a number of players, hoping that we were in the Champions League so that we could try to challenge on all fronts.
“The players that we have brought in have a clear profile of the role that we want them to play and we see them as players who can develop in the future as well.”
