Liverpool transfers: Bayer Leverkusen chief Rudi Voller confirms Emre Can has a €12m (£9.7m) release clause
Rudi Voller has confirmed that Bayer Leverkusen star Emre Can has a €12m (£9.7m) release clause amid interest from Liverpool.
The Germany Under-21 international has been attracting interest from a host of European clubs in recent weeks after an eye-catching campaign for Leverkusen.
We know there is interest, but have nothing official
The 20-year-old, who can play at left-back and in midfield, scored three goals and made three assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances this season.
And Leverkusen sporting director Voller acknowledged that Liverpool have shown interest in the highly-rated youngster but have not made a bid.
“We know there is interest, but have nothing official,” Voller told Bild.
Voller added: “It is clear that Emre now has a clause in the contract – a decision is still pending. The business would be lucrative. But that is not the sticking point. We are of the opinion that Emre would still do well one years with us.”
Bayern have the option to activate a buy-back clause if the German champions wish to re-sign Can – but Voller revealed that the Bavarian side feel the midfielder should stay put.
“Of course I spoke with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [of Bayern Munich] on the subject. They think that for Emre’s development another season Leverkusen would be just right,” Voller added.
