Liverpool transfers: Konoplyanka deal little complicated, says Rodgers
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers says there is no update on their efforts to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka
Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool’s bid to sign Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka has become a “little complicated”.
Reds managing director Ian Ayre flew out to Ukraine earlier this week to hold discussions regarding a potential deal for highly-rated Konoplyanka.
We’ll see how it evolves. It’s a little complicated
The Ukrainian side are believed to be demanding a £16m fee for the playmaker, with Tottenham Hotspur also linked with a move for the 24-year-old.
“There is no update yet,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference. “As I said, there’s obviously an interest in the player but there’s no update.
“We’ll see how it evolves. It’s a little complicated. The staff that are over there have done brilliant work. They’ve given us every chance to get the player.
“We just need to see how that develops over the rest of the day.”
Rodgers continued: “I just think that it’s all happened very quickly. The timeline on everything makes it tight.
“We had a list of a number of players on it and we’ll see how it develops.”
Rodgers added that he feels Konoplyanka’s potential signing would freshen up his Liverpool squad and provide extra competition for places.
“It’s not for now, it’s for the future as well. We’re still in the middle of building and growing the group. We’ll need a number of players,” Rodgers said.
“January is a very difficult market to do that.
“But I’m very happy with the players that I have. I think every manager would love a number of players who can freshen up the group and give extra motivation to players.
“So, we’ll see if we can do it. If it doesn’t work and we don’t get anyone in, we’ve shown that this is a team that’s ready to fight all the way.”
Asked if Liverpool could sign any other players before Friday’s deadline, Rodgers replied: “We won’t have any more.”
