Pepe Reina will not be available for Liverpool’s Europa League clash against Anzhi Makhachkala at Anfield on Thursday, assistant manager Colin Pascoe has confirmed.

The Reds’ second-choice goalkeeper Brad Jones deputised for Reina in their 1-0 victory over Reading in the Premier League on Saturday after the Spaniard injured his hamstring in training while on international duty.

The Liverpool assistant manager added he was unsure whether the 30-year-old would be fit for Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park.

“We’re not quite sure [how long he’ll be out for] at the moment,” said Pascoe. “Hopefully, it won’t be too long.

“He’s doing his rehab at the moment and he’s working hard in training. We’ve just got to assess him over the weekend and we’ll see then.”

Reina has made 382 appearances for Liverpool after completing a move from Villarreal to the Merseyside outfit in 2005.
