Alan Shearer states his prediction for Liverpool v Man United
Alan Shearer reckons that Liverpool could end up losing to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday
Alan Shearer believes that Liverpool could end up losing to Manchester United in Saturday’s crunch Premier League clash at Anfield.
Liverpool head into the game after a run of stuttering form in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks.
Indeed, the Reds have only won one of their last seven games in all competitions to leave Klopp under pressure following a mixed start to the new campaign.
The Merseyside outfit are currently seventh in the table and seven points behind Manchester United heading into Saturday’s lunchtime showdown.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have been in superb form so far this season and have only dropped points in one of their opening seven Premier League games to leave them level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table.
And former England striker Shearer believes that Manchester United could well claim victory against their bitter local rivals this weekend.
Writing in his column for the Sun, Shearer said: “Defeat to their [Liverpool’s] bitterest rivals on Saturday, however, will be a lot more damaging than merely the effect it will have on personal statistics.
“It will leave them ten points behind Jose Mourinho’s men and effectively end Liverpool’s title challenge before the clocks have changed.
“There is every chance they will lose as well, given the respective form of the two teams.
“Liverpool have one win from seven in all competitions while Manchester United have won nine and drawn one since their Super Cup defeat by Real Madrid.”
Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League this season for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2012-13 campaign.
The Red Devils ended up sixth in the table last term as they won both the Europa League and League Cup.
