Paul Merson states his prediction for Liverpool v Man United
The Arsenal legend is tipping Liverpool to settle for a draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon
Pau Merson is tipping Liverpool to beat Manchester United without Sadio Mane at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit suffered a blow earlier this week when it emerged Liverpool winger Mane was set to be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a hamstring problem.
The Reds confirmed that the 24-year-old attacking midfielder suffered the setback during Senegal’s 2-0 win against Cape Verde in the World Cup qualifier on Saturday evening.
Mane scored three times in his opening three games before receiving a red card during Liverpool’s 5-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City at The Etihad.
The Reds will be looking to win just their second game in their last eight outings when Manchester United make the short trip to Anfield on Saturday evening.
Jose Mourinho’s side have won six of their opening seven games having scored 21 goals and kept six clean sheets.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson ruled out the prospect of Liverpool beating Manchester United without Mane in Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up this weekend.
“This is a massive game, but I just don’t see how Liverpool win without Sadio Mane,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I half-fancied them with Mane, but I can’t see it now.
“It will be interesting to see how United approach it. You would like to think, with the squad and firepower they have got, that they will have a go. But we have said that before and they have parked the bus, so we will have to see what happens. It’s a big game for Romelu Lukaku. Now he is with one of the big boys he has to perform against the big boys.
“Manchester United are a better team but Liverpool’s home advantage should help them get a draw.”
Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Manchester United in their Premier League meeting at Anfield last season before a 1-1 stalemate with the Red Devils at Old Trafford earlier this year.
