Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool's Champions League clash with Maribor on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to claim a thumping home victory when they take on Maribor at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men returned to winning ways in the Premier League last weekend when the secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Anfield on Saturday.
Liverpool are preparing to welcome Maribor to Anfield after having thrashed their opponents 7-0 in their most recent meeting earlier this month.
And former Liverpool striker Owen is fully expecting to see the Reds claim a comfortable victory in Wednesday’s game and take a big step towards qualification for the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
Writing in his blog for Bet Victor, Owen said: “I shall be at Anfield with BT Sport and expect to see Liverpool back among the goals having put seven past Maribor in the reverse fixture back in Slovenia.
“The Reds currently top the Group but, with a trip to Seville and a visit from CSKA Moscow to follow, they cannot afford any slip-ups against a side who looked out of place in the competition back in Maribor.”
Liverpool have been in stuttering form so far this season and their victory over Huddersfield on Saturday was only their fourth win in the Premier League so far this season.
The Merseyside outfit currently find themselves 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
The Reds, who finished in fourth place in the table last season, return to Premier League action with a trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United this weekend.
