Jurgen Klopp replies when asked if Philippe Coutinho could feature in Liverpool v Sevilla
The Liverpool manager says Philippe Coutinho is in contention to face Sevilla in the Champions League on Sunday
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Philippe Coutinho could be in line to return to Liverpool first-team action when Sevilla make the trip to Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds have been without Coutinho in their opening six games of the season following uncertainty surrounding the Brazil international’s long-term future at Anfield.
Barcelona made a number of bids to attempt to sign the South American in the summer transfer window despite Liverpool’s insistence that Coutinho was not for sale.
The 25-year-old handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a deal but Liverpool refused to budge and the South American remained a Reds player.
Liverpool made a successful start to the 2017-18 season without Coutinho after victories over Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
However, the Reds suffered a chastening 5-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon ahead of their first Champions League group-stage fixture on Wednesday night.
Asked whether Coutinho could return to the Liverpool side for the visit of Sevilla at Anfield, Klopp said: “Yes.”
Liverpool were 6-3 aggregate winners against Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in their Champions League playoff to secure a place in the group-stage.
Coutinho scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the Premier League last term.
