Kenny Dalglish doesn’t expect Liverpool to turn their back on Luis Suarez following his latest controversy.

The 27-year-old striker has been banned for nine game and for four months from any football-related activity by Fifa after biting Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay’s 1-0 victory over Italy on Wednesday.

Liverpool have stood by Suarez in the past amid an eight-game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra and a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013.

The Reds have been urged to sell Suarez to Barcelona or Real Madrid by the club’s former stars in recent weeks – but Dalglish, who brought Suarez to Liverpool in 2011, wants the forward to be helped by the 18-time English champions.

“It is my belief that when you bring a player to a football club, he becomes your responsibility. You don’t just turn you back on a player because he has done something wrong,” Dalglish wrote in his Daily Mirror column.

“I think you will find that Liverpool will not turn their back on Suarez, whatever the ban FIFA have decided he must serve. Of course it will be a heavy blow if the club has to do without him for the opening months of the season.

“You can’t really ask any one person why what happened against Italy happened, because there is only one person who knows and that is Luis – some people have injuries you can’t see.

“Sometimes, when people have something wrong with them, just because they don’t have a plaster cast on their leg, people think they don’t need help.”
