Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers: Title is Man City’s to lose
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers picks Manchester City as favourites to win the Premier League title
Brendan Rodgers believes the Premier League title is Manchester City’s to lose this season.
The Liverpool manager was responding to claims by Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho that the Reds are the leading contenders to secure the top-flight crown.
I still think it’s Manchester City’s to lose
Rodgers’ men don’t have to contend with Champions League or Europa League football this season, which is an advantage in the eyes of Mourinho and Wenger.
However, the Liverpool manager, whose side face Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, insisted he would only talk about a title bid with five games remaining.
“My feeling is still the same – come back to us with five games to go, “ Rodgers told the ECHO.
“If we’re still in the hunt then we can talk seriously about it then. Until that point comes we have got important games to focus on. There are points to be won and I’m sure there will points lost in that period as well.
“I still think it’s Manchester City’s to lose. We have to rely on other teams dropping points – that’s where it’s at.
“In the mean time we will focus on increasing our performance level. What you need in the Premier League is energy and commitment and we have got that.
“To be right at the very top you need energy, commitment and quality. We have all three of those. That’s something we aim to apply in these remaining games.”
